Organizing Vigil in Toronto to Honor Victims of ICE: Tuesday, January 27th
A Community Gathering to Show Solidarity and Respect
On Tuesday, January 27th, residents of Toronto are invited to participate in a peaceful vigil dedicated to honoring Alex Pretti and all individuals impacted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies. The event, scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm, will take place across from the U.S. Consulate, located at 361 University Avenue, near the Pillars of Justice.
Purpose and Nature of the Vigil
This gathering is intended as a silent act of remembrance and solidarity, separate from protests. Attendees are encouraged to observe a moment of quiet reflection and are welcome to participate in brief expressions of support between 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Participants may also choose to arrive at any time during the event to lay flowers, light candles, place photos or signs, or simply pay their respects. The vigil aims to create a respectful space for those who wish to stand in solidarity with victims of immigration enforcement policies.
Guidelines for Attendees
To ensure everyone’s safety and comfort, participants are advised to wear sturdy footwear, as winter conditions are expected to include snow and wind. Warm clothing is recommended. The event does not have a fixed end time, allowing individuals to join or leave at their convenience, whether for a brief moment or an extended stay.
Community members are encouraged to bring items such as flowers, candles, and cardboard signs to mark the occasion. The goal is to foster a collective moment of reflection and support within Toronto’s diverse community.
Please remember to respect the boundaries of the U.S. Consulate perimeter, as no activities are planned to occur near or on the consulate grounds.
Join in Creating a Space of Compassion
This vigil offers an opportunity for Toronto residents to stand together in acknowledgment of the struggles faced by many under current immigration policies. By participating, community members can contribute to a collective expression of compassion and remembrance.
Stay safe, stay warm, and consider taking part in this meaningful act of solidarity.
