Celebrating 60 Years of Toronto’s Line 2: A Visual Journey from 1966 to 2026
On this historic day, we commemorate the 60th anniversary of Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Line 2, which first opened to the public in 1966. Over the decades, this line has become a vital artery for residents and visitors alike, shaping the city’s transportation landscape. To honor this milestone, I have curated a collection of photographs that illustrate the evolution of Line 2 from its inception to the present day.
A Visual Chronicle Spanning Six Decades
The collection includes images captured over the past sixty years, highlighting key stations and the dynamic changes they have undergone. The 2026 photographs, exclusively taken by myself (u/AdAcademic3891) and my friend (u/retrying1), showcase the current state of various stations and surrounding areas.
Historical Images and Gaps in Early Documentation
Some locations, such as Keele, Dundas West, Lansdowne, and Dufferin stations, lack photographic records from the initial years of operation. To fill these gaps, images from the period of 1967-1968 have been incorporated, providing a glimpse into the early days of these stations.
Sources and Acknowledgments
A significant portion of the archival photographs originates from Nathan Ng’s Station Fixation website (stationfixation.com), which offers a wealth of historical transit imagery. All such images included here have been used with expressed permission, ensuring proper acknowledgment of their source.
A Project of Dedication and Planning
Compiling this visual history has been a meticulous process that spanned several weeks. It involved careful planning to accurately represent the evolution of Toronto’s transit infrastructure and to pay homage to a line that has served the city for six decades.
Thank you for exploring this commemorative collection. It is a tribute to the enduring legacy of Toronto’s transit system and the communities it continues to connect.
