Claims Open – Manitoba Solitary Confinement Class Action

New Class Action Open for Manitoba Residents Affected by Solitary Confinement

A new class action lawsuit has been initiated concerning the use of solitary confinement in Manitoba’s provincial correctional facilities. This legal action seeks to address concerns related to individuals who experienced segregation under specific circumstances between 2006 and 2026.

Who Is Eligible?

Individuals who were placed in solitary confinement in a Manitoba provincial jail as a youth from 2006 to 2026, or as an adult from 2012 to 2026, may qualify if they were confined for at least 15 consecutive days. Additionally, eligibility extends to those who were subjected to segregation while Manitoba officials were aware or should have been aware of a diagnosed serious mental illness.

Financial Compensation

Eligible class members may receive compensation ranging from $3,000 up to $100,000. The exact amount depends on individual circumstances related to the case. Importantly, residency in Manitoba is not a requirement for eligibility; the criteria are based on the circumstances of detention.

Application Process and Deadline

Claims must be submitted using the appropriate claim form before August 24, 2027. This deadline provides ample time for affected individuals to participate and potentially receive compensation.
